A Letter from the PTA President
Dear LY/PR Community,
For those who don’t know me, my name is Jen Havill, and I have the privilege of acting as your PTA President this school year. Just a short background on me, my husband, Damon, and I have three kids. They are ages 8, 10, and 14 and all started Kindergarten at Lyon. Previously I worked in product marketing but left corporate life and now work part-time for a non-for-profit. In my free time I enjoy all racquet sports (paddle, pickle, and tennis), concerts, and traveling. I have been involved in the PTA on and off since my oldest was at Lyon so I have been at this awhile!
What does the PTA do?
The LY/PR PTA plays a vital role in fostering a positive school environment and supporting the needs of both students and educators. We are here to build community and to support you and your child through enriching programs, events, and fundraisers. We also fund over $10k of teacher grants annually for special projects such as bikes for the Lyon learn-to-ride program, flexible seating for Lyon classrooms, mystery books for third graders, AV equipment for the PR gym, and more!
What events does the PTA sponsor?
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people while serving on the PTA. I encourage everyone old and new to attend our events or meetings and experience the same. We have a variety of events lined up for August and September, including Popsicles in the Park on August 13th, organized by our Community Engagement Chairs, Meg Spathis and Ann Phister. Enjoy a cool treat on us!
How can I support the PTA?
The 2024-25 LY/PR PTA membership drive is now underway! Join the PTA for $25! Your membership fee directly supports the PTA and grants you access to our online directory. Becoming a member of the PTA is optional and does not obligate you to take on a volunteer position. However, your support is greatly valued and directly benefits Lyon and Pleasant Ridge schools.
Thank you to all who have volunteered to take a 24-25 board position. I’m excited that with a full board we can accomplish great things this year. The LY/PR PTA fosters a spirit of collaboration, transparency, and approachability. And I am fully committed to continuing that methodology this year.

Regards,
