PTA Grants
When funds are available, the PTA requests teacher and staff grant applications to be submitted. The criteria below is reviewed by our Grant Committee (parents, principals, and teachers) to prioritize spending of the funds available. Some requests may be only partially funded.

  • Number of children to be impacted. Consideration is given to programs/tools that might at first only impact a small number of children in a pilot phase – but then might impact a larger number.
  • Support of the schools’ strategic plans for education. How directly does this item align with our schools’ overall objectives, goals, and focus?
  • How directly does the requested item/program impact learning.
  • Innovation of the idea/program.
  • Educator priority. This piece is subjective and based upon the Building Committee’s priority discussion and ratings.
  • Parent priority. This piece is subjective and based upon the Parent Committee’s discussion and ratings.

The PTA financed the wiring of Lyon School to become the first primary school in the District to become wireless. Nearly $15,000.

In 2005 the PTA financed approximately $3,000 for a program for teachers at Pleasant Ridge to do in-service training (including materials) on new ways to teach and assess student writing.

In spring of 2005 the pta sponsored an artist to lead the entire staff and student body of Lyon along with parent volunteers to create this wonderful sculpture now on display in Lyon's front hall. Students arms, faces, legs and hands were plastered for each part you see.

The PTA has brought in many authors to visit with and inspire our young student authors over the years.

The PTA has funded Pleasant Ridge classroom learning tools such as loupes with specimens and differentiated reading materials used for science and social studies ... as seen being put to good use below.
