Reliving our past for every child's future. All proceeds from the evening will go to the PTA and school programs, things like innovative technology, learning programs, and facility equipment.
How does the PTA raise money?
Exciting raffles, drawings, and auctioning items donated from generous local businesses, parents, and staff. Types of items our lucky prom couples can go home with this year:
- Adult & Family Fun (dinner & theatre packages, electronics, sign-up parties, sailing trips, and more!)
- Sports Events & Memorabilia
- Classroom-Created Gifts
- "Spend time with Your Favorite Teacher" Packages
Last year, we raised over $47,000 for our schools and we hope to repeat that again this year!
Where does the money go?
The money raised is used to support pta programs and events such as student assemblies, and to fund teacher-submitted PTA Grants for innovative technology, equipment, and learning programs. Here are just a few PTA Grants that we were able to fund last year:
- Document Camera – Equipment used to project images (text, 3-D objects, etc.) that facilitate and support student learning.
- Poster Printer – Printer for teachers to use to make large-scale instructional aids such as concept webs, maps, poem charts and diagrams.
- Life Fitness Materials – Provides new items of fitness equipment (instant pulse monitors, exercise tubing, etc.) and an online fitness resource (“Brain Pop”) to extend and enhance healthy lifestyles aspects of Physical Education curriculum at Lyon .
- Language for Learning – Instructional materials for English Language Learners that provide activities and lessons supporting vocabulary development, word and sentence variety, word knowledge development and basic language concepts.
- Integrated Student Digital Portfolios - Promotes the integration oftechnology through language arts, science, social studies, mathematics, and our encore program. During their time at Pleasant Ridge School , students will take a variety of pictures and writings oftheir experiences and work. Students will develop a digital portfolio oftheir learning products.
- 3-D US Map Kits - These 3 dimensional maps provide children with a tactile feel of the earth’s geography. Using these maps, children build deeper understandings of problems society face resulting from geographic issues. Our students can see the changes in terrain soldiers would have faced in conflicts such as the Civil War.
- Everything You Need to Teach Money - This program allows students who struggle with the system and concepts of money to explore and utilize play money in a plethora of ways. This hands-on methodology creates deep understandings for students.
- Horseshoe Tables for Pleasant Ridge classrooms - In the world of biology and architecture, form follows function. The Horseshoe table is a unique piece of furniture that allows a reading group leader to be surrounded by the students that are reading with him/her. This grant will support our teachers as they implement the new guided reading program, by allowing teachers to work more closely with 5-7
students in a reading group.
- Art Classroom CDs - Accessing students multiple learning styles opens their minds to learning. The use of music within the art classroom activates and stimulates students’ creative minds.

No more stamps...or long check-out lines. Our advance ticket purchase online payment option was a huge success last year! You can RSVP online with your Visa or MasterCard (please don't use American Express!). While you’re there, you can purchase your drawing tickets and make a donation. Plus our automated payment process the night of the auction means shorter check out times. (Note: Buying online does not mean you are set up for automated check out at the benefit. This will be available at check in.)

Everyone has a chance to be a winner. Our goal is for all of our parents to be able to participate in our fundraising efforts at their own desired level. Our Silent Auction items have a range of affordable starting bids and we’re also offering two separate drawings: 1) a traditional-style Rockin' Raffle of 1 ticket for $10 or 6 tickets for $50 for great prizes; and 2) the “Decade of Decadence ” Drawing for $100 per ticket which will put one lucky winner in a Zamboni ride at the United Center during a Chicago Blackhawks game with 4 tickets and a limo ride to and from the game! Prior knowledge is the key to a successful bidding experience so check out www.lyonprpta.org for a continually updated list of prizes, auction items, and values.

Parent Donation Ideas. We’re counting on your generous tax deductible donation for use in our Silent Auction. This year, we’re looking for items that will make donating to our school not only easy for our parents, but a thrill to win. Here are some examples of what our generous parent community has contributed in the past:
• Chicago-area pro sports tickets or packages such as Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs or Sox tickets
• Autographed sports memorabilia
• Vacation homes
• A day with… (a local celebrity, sports pro, chef, etc.)
• Theatre or talk show tickets
Please talk to family, friends and co-workers who might be able to help contribute to our auction. Your generous donation will be recognized in our auction booklet.

What do People Wear?
This year's theme being 80's Prom Night, we are encouraging both guys and gals to dress for the prom! However, this is not a costume party. If not in prom attire, wear what you would normally wear to a cocktail party. In the past, women have worn short and long dresses, skirt outfits, and dressy pant suits. Men usually wear suits or sport coats with or without a tie and casual slacks.
